About Heritage Post & Beam
Heritage Post & Beam was started in 1993 by Paul Fox, the father of current owner Michael Fox. Paul Fox graduated from Eli Whitney where he learned design concepts and was taught to draw architectural blue prints. At age 27 Paul won an award for kitchen design in CT and was the owner of a kitchen and cabinet supply store in New Haven.
Paul was asked by one of customers if he could build him a post and beam barn. Having never built one before Paul was a little trepidatious. He did significant research into the history and building process of timber frame construction, and built his first barn by himself. He fell in love with the technique and charm of the structures right away. He must have done a good job because from then on he has been building solely post and beam barns all through word of mouth.
Paul’s son Michael worked on and off with Paul in the summers of his high school years. After high school Michael worked with Paul full time for 7 years, then went on his own to start a remodeling business. After years on his own Michael returned to help Paul build barns and eventually took over the business.
Heritage Post & Beam barns are built by Michael Fox and his employee with the help of a crane to erect the frame. All the barns are designed by Heritage Post & Beam.
